VALENCIA AND ITS REGION

VALENCIA AND ITS REGION

Valencia is a lovely town at the shore of the Turia River and surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. Its climate is smooth and warm the whole year long, this makes it an exceptional destination at any time. Specially famous is the city because of the fiesta, “Las Fallas” which is held in the month of March and attract thousands of tourists.

During a walk through the historical centre we can find a huge variety of very interesting monuments such as the Cathedral Santa Maria with its octagonal belfry named “Miguelete” or in local language the “Micalet”. But it is also worth visiting “la Lonja de los Mercaderes” or “Lonja de Seda”, -the silk Exchange,- which is National monument since 1931 and is World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The ancient riverbed of the Turia forms the green area of the city. This splendorous garden can be crossed by a relaxing cycle ride.

Another very important spot is the City of Arts and Sciences, – „Ciudad del Arte y de las Ciencias“ a huge surprising complex because of its architecture –work from Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela. Visiting these buildings we will learn about different aspects related to science, technology, nature and art.

In the outskirts of the city we will reach the Albufera Natural Park. It is the largest lake in Spain and one of the most important wetland areas in the country. Its waters have been traditionally worked by fishermen and rice growers. During a relaxing boot trip we will enjoy this place of great ecological interest while admiring its fauna and vegetation.

Our proposal will include also further excursions to the region and of course the tasty Mediterranean food and the best known regional plate, the “Paella” will not be missed.
